Before You Begin

Installation Overview

Prepare Your Substrate

Ensure your mounting surface (concrete, wood deck, or steel) is level and structurally sound. Mark spigot locations every 3 feet along the railing run.

Mount Spigots

Drill holes according to the bolt pattern. Insert anchors for concrete, or use lag bolts for wood. Tighten spigots to the specified torque.

Set Glass Panels

Slide panels into spigots and tighten set screws. Use a level to ensure panels are plumb. Connect adjacent panels with 180° connectors.

Finish with Cap Rail

If using a cap rail, measure and cut to length. Snap onto the glass top edge and secure with clips at each spigot point. Add end caps and corner connectors.

Tools You'll Need

  • Hammer drill with masonry bits (for concrete substrates)
  • Standard drill/driver (for wood substrates)
  • Socket wrench set
  • Torpedo level and 4ft level
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil or marker
  • Safety glasses and gloves
  • Miter saw (if cutting cap rail to length)

Substrate Preparation

Spigots can be mounted on concrete, wood, or steel. Each substrate requires a different fastening approach:

  • Concrete: Use concrete anchor bolts (included with spigots). Drill holes to specified depth using a hammer drill with masonry bit. Clean holes with compressed air before inserting anchors.
  • Wood: Use lag bolts (included). Mount through the deck board into the joist below. We recommend a minimum 2x8 joist for structural support. Pre-drill pilot holes to prevent splitting.
  • Steel: Use through-bolts with backing plates. Drill mounting holes through steel substrate to match spigot bolt pattern.

Spigot Spacing

For standard glass panel widths, space spigots according to the chart included with your order. As a general guide:

  • Panels up to 36" wide: spigots at 30-33" center-to-center
  • Each panel requires 2 spigots (one near each edge)
  • Where two panels meet, they share a 180° connector between adjacent spigots
  • At corners, use a 90° connector
  • At wall terminations, use a wall connector

Glass Panel Installation

  1. Loosen the set screws on each spigot
  2. Slide the glass panel into the spigot channels
  3. Use a level to ensure the panel is plumb
  4. Tighten set screws evenly to secure the panel
  5. Install connectors between adjacent panels

Cap Rail Installation

  1. Measure the total rail length for each section
  2. Cut aluminum cap rail to length using a miter saw with a non-ferrous blade
  3. Place the rubber gasket into the cap rail channel
  4. Press the cap rail onto the top edge of the glass panels
  5. Secure with clips at each spigot location
  6. Install end caps and corner connectors where applicable

Yes. Our spigots work on wood substrates using lag bolts. The mounting plate distributes load across the decking. For best results, mount through the deck board into the joist below. We recommend a minimum 2x8 joist for structural integrity.

Standard spacing is 2 spigots per panel, placed near the panel edges. For panels up to 36" wide, spigots should be roughly 30-33" apart (center to center). For wider panels, follow the specific spacing chart included with your order.

In most US jurisdictions, replacing existing railings with glass does not require a separate permit, but new construction with railings typically does. Always check with your local building department before starting. If you need engineering documentation for a permit application, contact us.
